A SAINT HELENA Journey

Pat in Saint Helena:

Pat has lived full-time in Saint Helena since 2020, and has owned his home here since 2011. He was -- gasp -- a vacation home renter here for roughly a dozen summers before that, and first joined Meadowood in 1991. He knows this city not as a politician, but as a neighbor — someone who has watched it grow, change, and face real challenges that demand real leadership. Pat and his wife Tracy have been engaged citizens, and their son, Matthew, has just started his sixth year at Saint Helena Montessori School. Pat has served on the Saint Helena Financing City Infrastructure Task force and authored its 2020 Final Report. In 2024, Pat served 10 months as an appointed member of the Saint Helena City Council, where he supported fiscal prudence, common-sense management, environmental protections, and the rights of all citizens. He has learned how the City Council - City Manager form of government works -- and how it can work better.

Pat's Career in brief:

Pat Kenealy is a Founder and Venture Partner at Ridge Ventures, an early-stage venture capital in San Francisco that is now investing its fifth fund and counts more than $500 million in assets under management.  At Ridge, Pat selected entrepreneurs to invest in and, as a board member, helped them grow successful companies.   He has stopped investing in new companies at Ridge, but still still a Board Director or Board Observer at a handful of sizable private companies.  Pat joined Ridge after a 30-year career at media giant International Data Group (IDG), which published magazines like PC WORLD and MACWORLD and the For Dummies book series. Pat was Founder and CEO of IDG's Digital News Publishing subsidiary, Publisher and CEO of its PC World Communications subsidiary, and finally CEO of IDG itself overseeing media, market research and event businesses in more than 50 countries.  He recruited and supervised dozens of Country Managers and profit center managers in dozens of countries and reviewed and approved hundreds of annual and multi-year operating budgets.  Pat helped lead IDG from print media into the Internet world, and IDG was named one of FORTUNE magazine's 100 Best Companies to Work For while he was CEO. In his later years at IDG Pat launched IDG's corporate venture capital fund in the USA and helped IDG launch corporate VC funds in Asia and Europe.  Over the years Pat has lived in Boston, New York City, San Francisco, London and Paris and he has worked in or visited more than  40 countries.  He is very glad to call Saint Helena home!
